BooksMoviesCoffee Release Schedule
What to expect and when to expect it.
So, here's the deal, my friends. As some of you may already know, I kicked off this Substack thing at the start of 2023. Now, originally, I had plans to start up a book and film blog in 2024, but life had other plans for me. My day job got a little wonky, and I needed to shake things up sooner rather than later. So, I decided to get a jump start on my blog and film reviews. But, as luck would have it, more complications sprouted up that forced me to overhaul my business operations. That ate up a lot of my time and mojo and slowed down the progress on my BooksMoviesCoffee project.
But! Hold onto your hats, people! Things are finally starting to calm down, and I'm ready to bring you some consistency. It may be a bit rocky for the next couple of weeks, but I'm planning on rolling out a solid release schedule by mid-April.
Oh, and by the way, did anyone notice my new logo and design? Yeah, I totally revamped that jazz. If any of y'all are interested (let me know in the comments below), I'll dish on why I made the change in a special post just for subscribers.
Tuesday Morning: Tolkien Post
I'm aware that a lot of you fine folks signed up for my Substack to get your fill of all things Tolkien. And trust me, I'm not about to let you down. Back in January, I promised to delve into one book from the 12-volume History of Middle Earth series each month. Now, while I'm knee-deep in The Lays of Beleriand in real life, I still have a lot to say about The Book of Lost Tales, Parts 1 & 2.
So, here's the deal. I'm playing catch-up, and I'm gonna make it up to you all with some seriously awesome content. Starting next week, every Tuesday morning, I'm gonna drop at least one Tolkien post per week. But, that's not all, folks! I'm gonna try to hit you with 2-3 posts per week, with additional entries on Wednesday and Thursday mornings until I get everything back on track.
My plan is to take on one story or chapter per post. If something's a little thin and doesn't require as much chatter, or on the flip side, if something's super dense and needs a little extra love, I reserve the right to adjust my approach. But, the most important thing to remember is that from here on out, it's gonna be "Tolkien Tuesday" every week!
Tuesday Afternoon: TBR Update
Here's the plan, folks. On the first week of the month, I'm gonna spill the tea on what books I'm planning on tackling in the coming weeks. Then, on the last week of the month, I'll give you the lowdown on how well I did with those reading goals. And, in between those posts, I'm gonna do a little bit of everything. I'll give you capsule reviews, synopses, and commentary on what I've been devouring. Sometimes I'll group multiple books together by theme, while other times I might focus solely on one book that really struck a chord with me.
But, the most important thing to know is that there will be at least one post per week that's not about Tolkien or Dickens. Yep, you heard me right. One whole post! Well, okay, two if you count... (insert drumroll here) ...my TBR and reading goals updates! So, buckle up, bookworms, and get ready for some literary goodness.
Wednesday Afternoon: 12 Books List
So, I've been doing a little experimenting with listicles these past few weeks, and I gotta say, it's been pretty darn fun. And, to top it all off, those posts have brought in some fresh new subscribers and even sold a few books through affiliate links. Now, hold on a sec, don't give me that look. It's not a reflection on me as a person, but more of a commentary on the society we live in, right? Right.
Here's what I've got planned for you all moving forward. Every week, I'm gonna hit you with a themed list of 12 book recommendations. And, let me tell you, these lists are gonna be the real deal. I'm gonna group books by genre, topic, award winners, and everything in between. For example, I might do a list called "12 PEN/Faulkner Prize Winners Worth Revisiting". Pretty cool, huh?
Now, before you start getting all huffy and puffy about listicles, I promise this will be the only one I indulge in. Trust me, I know how annoying they can be. But, I promise to make this a fun and informative part of our Substack community.
Thursday Morning: Dickens Post
I gotta admit, I'm a bit bummed that no one seems to be all that excited about my upcoming Dickens posts. But, you know what? I'm gonna soldier on and do it anyway. So there!
Here's what I've got planned for all you die-hard Dickens fans out there. I'm gonna write one post per original serial release of his work. For instance, back in March of 1836, Dickens released chapters 1 and 2 of The Pickwick Papers together. So, I'll be covering those bad boys in one post. And, in April of that same year, he released chapters 2 through 5, which will also get their own post.
Now, I know what you're thinking. "But Berin, how are you gonna make this interesting?" Well, my dear reader, I've already got my notes compiled and ready to go. All I need to do is sit down and edit them into a readable and engaging form. Trust me, you won't want to miss out on these posts. So, even if you're not the biggest Dickens fan out there, I urge you to stick around and give it a shot. Who knows, you might just become a convert!
Thursday Afternoon: TBW Update
You may recall my earlier mention of our "Tuesday Afternoon: TBR Update" posts. Well, now it's time to switch things up a bit. Instead of talking about what we're reading, let's talk about what we're watching. That's right, it's time for "Thursday Afternoon: TBWUpdate"!
Now, I know what you're thinking. "Berin, we came here for books, not movies!" But, here's the thing. I have a deep-seated love for old films, and I simply can't resist sharing that passion with you all. So, even if you're not the biggest movie buff out there, I hope you'll stick around and give it a chance.
The reason why I love watching movies so much is that it's a relatively passive activity. And, let's face it, sometimes we all need a break from the craziness of the world. But, just because it's a passive activity doesn't mean it can't be intellectually stimulating. That's why it's important to select films that feed our minds, rather than turn them into mush.
Other Posts
So, the bare minimum is gonna be five posts per week, Tuesday through Thursday. Now, I know what you're thinking. "Why those days, Berin? What's the significance?" Well, if you're interested in learning more about why I chose those days, leave a comment below, and I might just do a bonus post for subscribers.
But, wait, there's more! There will be additional posts, too. For example, when award winners are announced or other time-sensitive news drops. Or, if I'm just really excited about something and feel the need to share my thoughts with you all. Trust me, it's gonna be awesome.
Now, I know things might still be a bit choppy for the next few weeks as we get things up and running, but by mid-April, our BookMoviesCoffee schedule should be firing on all cylinders. So, sit back, relax, and get ready for some amazing content!
